Window Ware is treading lightly and reducing its carbon footprint for Earth Day 2017

Seeing as it’s Earth Day 2017 this weekend, we thought our eco-conscious customers might be interested to learn about what we’re doing to reduce the company’s carbon footprint and minimise the impact our business activities have on the environment. Window Ware think it’s important to safe-guard the earth for future generations (so much so, we’ve written it into our corporate social responsibility statement). If you care about the planet like we do, then you’ll be relieved to know each order you place will be processed and fulfilled with every conceivable care, not just for the condition of your goods and the service you receive, but also for the world we live in.

Working towards a paperless office

We are actively encouraging orders to be placed electronically, either by email or through our webstore. We are also exploring new software which will convert faxed order to electronic format for saving and processing paper-free through our ERP system. We are starting to see more customers use their online account to create and manage orders, view discounted trade pricing and make payments – all helping to reduce the paper trail. While we can’t convert everyone, we are making headway and have already managed to render several filing cabinets redundant and free up office space!

Recycling, reusing & optimising packaging

Our frugal warehouse team are at the front line of reducing our environmental impact. They try to recycle and reuse packaging wherever possible, as well as dispose of waste responsibly. When packing your orders, they’ll aim to send your items in the minimum numbers of parcels and avoid excess wrappings while still ensuring your goods reach you in perfect condition. It’s a fine balance to strike, but we’re pleased to report that last year 97% of orders arrived on time and in full.

Eco-conscious office ethos

We also encourage our Window Ware co-workers to think green too. There are separate bins in the kitchen for recycling plastic cartons, cardboard, paper and tins. We don’t use plastic cups for our water coolers, and we ask our team to think before they print to avoid unnecessary paper and toner usage. Even small ‘acts of green’ like this help us to look after the environment.

At the end of the day, it makes sound business sense to consider the environment in our day to day business activities. Any cost savings we make in the process of reducing our carbon footprint puts us in a stronger position to absorb higher operational cost and minimise the effect of inflation on our prices – good news for our customers. Doing our bit for the planet also helps to foster a feel-good factor, not just for our customers, but also for our brand partners and shareholders. It’s a win-win situation!
