Follow our easy step by step guide on how to adjust a flag hinge on a on a uPVC door in just 3 easy steps.

What you will need:
- A flat headed screw driver.
- A Philips head screw driver.
- A 5mm Allen key.

The image below illustrates a Yale 3D flag hinge, a type of adjustment commonly found on flag hinges. Please note some flag hinges may vary.

Example—Yale 3D Flag Hinge

Step 1: First, adjust the compression by removing the top cover cap of the flange hinge.

There should be a slit to remove the cap otherwise you will need to use the flat headed screw driver. This will give you access to the adjustment part of the hinge:

We recommend that you mark the original position on the flag hinge and the adjustment piece.

Adjust the compression by turning the Allen key.  Please note depending on the design of the flag hinge you may also be able to move the door towards or away from the flag hinge:

Step 2: Get to the lateral adjustment on the flag hinge.

There are two ways to get to the lateral adjustment on a flag hinge depending on the design of your hinge;

You can remove the cover by hand:

Remove the end cover cap located on the nose of the hinge that is fixed to the opening part of your door:

Insert the 5mm Allen key and adjust the desired position:

You will need to remove the cover plate as it is holding the cover in place.

Open your front door and view your flag hinge from the inside. You should then be able to see a screw on the back of the hinge. Undo this screw carefully to ensure the cover plate doesn’t fall off and get damaged:

With the cover cap removed you should now have access to the lateral adjustment screw, insert the 5mm Allen key and adjust to desired location:

Step 3: Adjust the height of your flag hinge.

Locate bottom flag hinge cover cap. Please note that not all flag hinges have bottom cover caps.

Insert Allen key and turn to adjust to required height:

If you wish to lift the door because it has dropped and grinds on the frame you will need to adjust all three hinges.

Using the Lateral adjustment adjust the top hinge backwards towards the wall and the bottom hinge forwards towards the opening side of the door. This will cause a squaring effect lifting the front corner of the door, you will need to ensure that no gaps appear due to this adjustment otherwise you will be prone to leaks and draughts.
